A Case for Aiming High in Your Career | Krystina Danquah, RDH
Krystina took charge of her career from an early age, realizing her passion for patient care. Now a Territory Manager at Andau Medical, where she educates patients daily, she is not only looking to her own future, but that of her profession: hoping that the coming years will bring increased diversity & scope of practice, opening up further opportunities for individuals to thrive.
Krystina Danquah has always had a passion for dentistry and having a beautiful smile. She shadowed a family friend who was a hygienist during her summers and realized form an early age that she enjoyed being amongst patients. Her first job at a dental office was as a file clerk. She graduated from dental hygiene school in 2020.
She is excited to bring diversity to the dental community. She recognizes the importance of representation, especially for the youth. She is excited to show children that they have career options in the dental field.
She recently started a position with Andau Medical as a Territory Manager. She finds it rewarding to help educate patients who are periodontally compromised or patients who haven’t seen the dentist in years. She enjoys teaching her patients on ways they can take better care of their mouth for overall health and wellness.
What she didn’t expect when she chose to become a dental hygienist was the amount of strain our body is put under due to repetitive motions we use when practicing patient care. As clinicians, it is important that we take care of our bodies and find ways to practice good ergonomics to prevent injury and to sustain the longevity of our careers. Products that can support us in our profession are ergonomic loupes and a headlight, a saddle stool, and ergonomic instruments. Also, seeing a professional to address issues, such as a chiropractor or massage therapist, has proven beneficial to many.
She wants dental hygienists to know that there are a variety of options in our profession that exist outside of working clinically. There are many opportunities available. We are all different, so this career isn’t one size fits all. What has proven beneficial to Krystina is putting herself out there and starting a new journey with her new job.
She implores future hygienists to recognize that the sky’s the limit. It’s up to us to decide where we want to go. Networking helps us to gain opportunities and insight. She is interested in interior design and would love to help design offices that ergonomically support the clinician. She hopes that in the future dental hygienists’ scope of practice will extend into being able to deliver Botox to patients and at medical spas nationwide.
